The Standard: Sevenzo, the feisty songbird who captured the heart of Africa with her mellow voice when she appeared on Mnet hit reality television show Project Fame last year , has her eye now fixed on television and radio.Although Kudzai lost out on the R900 000 big prize and music recording contract that came with winning the music show, she is not resting on her laurels. "I have always wanted to be in broadcasting and on radio. I want to have my own programme because I believe I still have a lot to offer," Sevenzo told Standardplus. She is adamant she will never leave and settle in South Africa like Big Brother Africa 2003 contestant Tapuwa Mhere who has since settled in that country. Sevenzo said: "Home is best. I have no doubt I will travel the world but I will always put my home above all. For me, it will always be home and I believe I will do my best to get the most out of our fledging music industry."
There is good news for the beautiful singer’s legion of fans as she is in the studio working on her second album. She called the forthcoming album "mature and my brilliant work to date". Sevenzo said: "If you were at the Harare International Festival of the Arts when I performed you would have noticed that I had new tracks that I was belting out. Those are part of the tracks that make my second album." However, Sevenzo is keeping her cards close to her chest where the title of the album is concerned and whom she worked with. "I can tell you that I have some collaborations with local guys and a musician from Kenya. I cannot tell you how many tracks there are or the title of the album. Sevenzo is indeed maturing from a cabaret singer to a mainstream musician. She will be bringing her music to the "people" as she graces the Mannenburg stage for the first time since she was introduced to Africa. "I am trying new places where my fans can see and feel my new tracks. It is important that one performs at venues that fans frequent," said Sevenzo. |
