The Standard: Kudzai Sevenzo, Zimbabwe's representative at the Mnet Project Fame reality show, has released her debut album becoming the first contestant at the prestigious show to release an album.


The release of On a Day Like This, came shortly after the star vocalist was awarded a contract to perform as a resident artiste at a leading city restaurant.

The album is a 10-track package of jazz, soul, RnB, contemporary rock, urban ballade and traditional Zimbabwean tunes, was launched at a ceremony attended by fellow musicians and representatives of music retail outlets.

On the occasion, Sevenzo teamed up with members of the Faith Moves Mountains gospel outfit to perform songs from the album Qinisela, Zita Renyu, Uyai and I Don't Know Why.

Supporting act Prince Mafukidze did a lip sync performance of the popular song Driver from his album, It's Okay.

Sevenzo, a member of the Celebration Choir, effortlessly shifts from one genre to another attesting to her status as Zimbabwe's latest music sensation.

"Sometimes I have felt inadequate about the things that God has called me to do," Sevenzo said.

On a Day Like This has won Sevenzo the praise of fellow musicians both locally and in South Africa where she raised Zimbabwe's flag high at the Project Fame Academy.

Producer Andrew Baird said On a Day Like This was a unique production bringing together three of the country's top producers - Fortune Muparutsa, Delani Makhalima and Baird himself.
